Come glide under the bridges of the "Venice of Languedoc," brushing past facades that tell stories of merchants, fishermen, and sailors who loved the open sea. The son of an officer on a wine tanker in Sète and the grandson of a prominent merchant from Frontignan, I will accompany you on the Rhône-Sète Canal, which connects the Thau Lagoon to Frontignan. It's a peaceful journey.
While numerous ceremonies and events celebrate the past of what is known as the Singular Island (359 years since its founding in 2025), one sector of activity is often forgotten: the wine trade, which was nevertheless flourishing and dominant until the 1960s. I propose stopovers for tastings at the port of Frontignan or Sète and at one of the partner restaurants (see website) for a gourmet discovery of Mediterranean flavors.
The visit will be accompanied by Jean Philippe Granier, oenologist, for a tasting of today's great local wines which in turn mark this never-ending story.
A Doctor of Pharmacy, oenologist, winemaker, and son of a winemaker, he served for over 40 years as director of the Languedoc AOC, contributing to the qualitative evolution of Languedoc wines. His passion for Languedoc history and the taste of its terroir allows him to share the people and landscapes of this region. For him, wine tasting is a way to showcase the diverse terroirs of Languedoc. (Additional charge of €40 per person; 5 fine wines will be tasted)
