Come glide under the bridges of the "Venice of Languedoc," brushing past the facades that tell stories of merchants, fishermen, and sailors in love with the open sea. Son of an officer on a wine ship in Sète and grandson of a major merchant from Frontignan, I will accompany you on the Rhône-Sète Canal, which connects the Thau lagoon to Frontignan. It's a peaceful journey.
While many ceremonies and events come to glorify the past of what is nicknamed the singular island (359 years since its foundation in 2025), one sector of activity is often forgotten: that of the wine trade, yet flourishing and dominant until the 1960s. I suggest you stopovers for tastings at the port of Frontignan or Sète and at one of the partner restaurants (see site) for a gourmet discovery of Mediterranean flavors.
The tour will be accompanied by Jean Philippe Granier, oenologist, for a tasting of today's great local wines which in turn mark this never-ending history.
Doctor of Pharmacy, oenologist, winemaker, and son of a winemaker. For over 40 years, director of LAOC Languedoc, he has participated in the qualitative evolution of Languedoc wines. His passion for the history of Languedoc and the taste of the terroir allows him to introduce the people and landscapes of this region. For him, tasting is a way to introduce the different terroirs of Languedoc. (Additional price €40/person/ 5 great wines will be tasted)
